Program Partners

Education Service Center, Region 2
Karen Turner

ESC-2 has been another critical partner in recruiting and communication with school districts and librarians in the surrounding towns and communities, as well as the other ISDs in Corpus Christi. In 2010 they offered the program prime and accessible storage at their facility for the books we have collected and purchased for distribution to our education partners and our Early Bird Readers. They have also agreed to become our fiduciary agent and development partners for long-term sustainability of the program.

Corpus Christi Independent School District
Abi Barton

CCISD's support is significant to the expansion and success of the Early Bird Reader Program in Corpus Christi as it would be impossible to implement this program in schools without their whole-hearted participation and creativity. They have been a significant partner since the begining of our program.

KIII-TV
Heidi J. Garcia, Promotions Assistant

KIII agreed to sponsor an Early Bird Reader's community-wide Book Drive in March 2008. With the cooperation of the news and promotions departments, the Early Bird Reader Program received signifiant media coverage and one of their most successful first-time community events ever. KIII-TV is enthusiastically committed to making this an annual event with the hopes that each year we continue to bring in increasing larger number of books and community awareness for the need and this particular solution for addressing early literacy problems. Newsperson Regina Garcia serves again this year as the KIII Early Bird Reader spokesperson for the March 27, 2009 Book Drive.

KEDT-TV Education Services
Donna Frank and Dawn Stubblefield

KEDT has been a very generous donor of new books to the EBR program as part of their community education outreach. Donna and Dawn also serve as trainers and resource for the librarians and school districts who are implmenting the program.

Corpus Christi Public Libraries
Herb Canales

The public libraries have agreed to permanently house our "bookeries" - large wooden collection boxes painted in bright pink and lime green. Now the community has accessible, year-round locations to recycle their used children books and to put them to good use in home where the need is great.

H-E-B
Belinda Hernandez

H-E-B was our first outside corporate sponsor with a large financial contribution and conducting a city-wide book drive at all of the grocery stores in 2007. They paid for the radio and tv commercials to promote the book drive and helped us to believe that this was a program the community would support. They were right! H-E-B continues to support Early Bird Reader through book contributions.

Flint Hills Resources

Flint Hills Resources is the generous sponsor of the Community Action Council that conceived this project and has worked for four years to get it to the current point of exciting growth. FHR provides administrative and logistical support to the meetings of the all-volunteer council and their project teams. They provide occasional financial support through their philanthropy department to specific requests of the project teams, but for the most part they support the structure of the community think tank process that continues to produce creative and viable projects to address the needs and gaps in our community.
